Hello!

Welcome to Necessary Evil (NE), an RPG for people who love fantasy and folklore and want to try something a little different. You can play any creature you can think of, within reason! We already have a few races defined, but if you want something else, no problem! You even get to write out their factfile with the help of the other members.

Our aim is not to have the biggest member count out there, but to find and collect people who are like-minded and enjoy the creative art of literature in role play. It’s all about quality, not quantity. If that sounds like you then come in and join us!

The Plot

Say that the very notion of what you think is fact and fiction is wrong. And say, that hidden under your very nose, there was a war. A secret war between two parties not supposed to exist; a war that waged for years. A war that has finally drawn to a close.

Peace has finally started to settle among London’s hidden magical community after a decade of disputes. While the casters and the undead growl over old quarrels, there are many other supernatural races going about their daily business, trying not to get involved. Werewolves have their own pack disputes, fighting for dominance on a smaller scale. Shifters, as rare as they may be, are feeling safe enough to come out of the woodwork and introduce themselves to the rest of the magical world. Meanwhile, other races you may never have even heard of are going about their days.

Humans, as always, are happily oblivious to the trials and tribulations of the hidden world. They’re the vermin, the prey, the blind. The world is full of things you’ve never dreamed of, isn’t it about time you opened your eyes to the magical?

  • Stormhurst Town Centre
Bustling with a whole array of magical and mythical creatures, Stormhurst is the only safe haven in all of the UK and Ireland for the supernatural. Don’t be afraid to show your horns or run around on all fours here, you’re among friends... mostly. Vampires not welcome, you best use the back door if you have business here.

  • The Market
Magical stores, both permanent shops and street vendors, catering for all your needs. Potion ingredients, casting aides, enchanted furniture and trinkets, magical pets, you name it, they have it. Well, within reason. If you want some of the more shady stuff, you might have to look around the back. If your character has a magical-related business, you can request your own sub-board by PMing a staff member with the board name and description.

  • Gyphon Park
Wide, open, with plenty of picturesque trees for shade and space to run. It's even got a good sized pond. Nothing unusual here at all! Except for the odd walking shrub and firebreathing duck. Okay, so maybe there's a LITTLE bit of oddness.

  • Salvio Academy
This Academy for all varieties of magical creatures (not just wizards) is housed in newly-constructed buildings at the edge of Stormhurst after the original was destroyed by marauding vampires. It’s now well protected, as the wizards that run the place aren’t taking any more chances. Vampires not welcome.

A more quiet area of the town. Most of the residents live in this area and there are a few out of the way shops. Places range from quaint cottages to much bigger, prestigious homes.

Right at the edges of Stormhurst, a few of the less desirable places can be found. As well as old houses, shady buildings and a few overgrown paddocks, a little way out just inside the forest you can find the crumbled ruins of what used to be the Old Salvio Academy.

  • The New Forest
The forest surrounding the town is thick with deciduous trees and undergrowth of ferns and brambles. There are dirt and gravelled paths and bubbling brooks winding their way through the foliage, and the forest opens up occasionally onto heathland meadows covered in heather. It's chock full of magical oddities as well as regular animals - not all of them friendly. Carefully constructed (and ancient) deterrence spells keep tourists from wandering too close to the town, and though very few humans have ever found Stormhurst, vampires and such know the little back doors in, and exploit them frequently.

The good old streets of London. You can travel anywhere from the bustling city center to ominous dark alleyways or even the underground tube network. Just try not to get run over by all the traffic and commuters.

Exactly what it sounds like, whether you're out for shoes, R&R, or even just the weekly shop. There's cafes, restaurants scattered about as well as the odd shopping center. If your character has a business and you'd like a sub-board for it, feel free to ask for one. If you're after magical goods, you'll have more luck setting up shop in Stormhurst.

London's calling. This is your number one hotspot for bars, clubs, cinemas, gyms, and anything else you could ever need. Whatever you're here for, there's always something to do. If your character owns a business and you'd like a new sub-board added here, feel free to ask.

A fairly standard hospital for the most part, but hidden in an adjoined building and enchanted so humans can't see there are entire wards run by magical healers set up for any supernatural disaster you can think of.

Getting further out of the hustle and bustle of the city and onto larger, more sprawling lands and establishments. If anythings too big to fit in London proper, you'll find it here.
